    What’s your favorite country? I used to struggle What’s your favorite country? I used to struggle with that question as I’ve been to so many incredible places. Last year, one country cemented its place as number one in my heart. That country is Turkey. Here are five reasons why I love Turkey. 🇹🇷 There is so much to see. Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Goreme, these are just a few of the many amazing places to be discovered in Turkey. 🇹🇷 The country has a rich history. Turkey once housed ancient civilizations and was the seat of the Ottoman Empire. 🇹🇷 There is so much to do. Scuba diving, horseback riding, paragliding. This country has something for everyone. 🇹🇷 The food is incredible. Have you tried baklava? How about pide or kebab? Turkey is a foodie’s dream location. 🇹🇷 It’s affordable.     Earlier this year, I traveled to Bahrain on my own Earlier this year, I traveled to Bahrain on my own. As a solo female traveler, I hear a lot of the same things over and over again. It’s not safe for women to travel alone. Where is your partner? How does you partner feel about you traveling alone? It’s not safe to travel around the Middle East as a woman. Aren’t you lonely? I read XYZ happened to a woman traveling. Aren’t you scared that will happen to you? You should focus on settling down instead of traveling. I used to let comments like these bother me. Over time, as I’ve become a more experienced traveler, I’ve learned to let these preconceptions about being a woman and a traveler go. Most of these statements are said by people with limited experience traveling and out of genuine concern. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot from my time traveling, especially the time I’ve spent traveling solo. I’ve learned to take precautions, but put myself out there and be open to new experiences. I’ve learned how to trust my instincts and walk away from a situation that doesn’t feel right. I’ve developed a thick skin and can handle being put in almost any situation. I’ve made lifelong friends all over the world. I have had amazing experiences that I will cherish for a lifetime. Travel is an amazing teacher. Few people regret traveling. Women shouldn’t go. I’ve traveled to 6 countries in the Middle East solo and felt completely safe. When I lived in the Middle East I felt safer than in the US. Everyone speaks Arabic. Persian, Turkish, Kurdish, Hebrew. These are some of the many languages spoken in the Middle East and North Africa. Everyone is Muslim. While the majority of the Middle East is Muslim there are people of all religions living in the Middle East. You need to cover up. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Few countries require women to cover up.     Let’s talk about 2020… For travelers, this wa Let’s talk about 2020… For travelers, this was the end of the world. It was for me. I started 2020 off by going on a 6 month long backpacking trip. Less than a month into my trip, I was evacuated out of Finland. I had nowhere to go and since I had been in high-risk places at the time, no country would let me enter. It was a struggle even to get back to my home country. I had a visa to Australia that I couldn’t use and it felt like my life was over. Post-Covid, my goals have changed. I’m less focused on country counting. Instead, I’m spending my time exploring places more in-depth. 2020 reminded me why I left the US and why I won’t be living there again. My move to Australia is one of 4 that I’ll be doing over the next 5 years. To get the best views of Lion Rock visit at either sunrise 🌸 Wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. You will be hiking and walking up stairs so be prepared. 🌸 Rent a bicycle. This is one of the best ways to explore the area. 🌸 Be respectful. There are areas where you are not allowed to take photographs.
